Rainy Tuesday

We had a really nice long weekend, did some hiking and picnicking, and got Thomas into the pool twice! He wasn't too sure about swimming at first but with a little time really got the hang of it. We may have a fish on our hands! He is now sticking out his tongue and is trying really hard to pull up on things. It won't be long, I'm sure.

Happy Memorial Day Weekend

Bed Head

Thomas woke up from his afternoon nap with a very interesting hairdo. I guess that's what happens when you sleep on the side of your face like this. The creamed spinach smears from lunch probably didn't help!

Hanging out

Thomas still fits in his infant snugli, but his legs are so long now his feet are at a dangerous height!

The weather here has been cold and rainy so we didn't get up to too much this weekend. It still went too fast, though.

Sitting pretty

I staged a little photo session at home for Thomas the other day - the local paper runs a special feature for 1 year old birthdays, but the photo needs to be submitted 4 weeks in advance. This photo was the winner, being one of the only ones in which he wasn't wiggling or clapping! He looks so big though, where did our tiny baby go?

IEEE Award

Steve was recently given the honor of being named one of 'AI's 10 To Watch' by IEEE Intelligent Systems Magazine (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). There will be an article published in the May/June issue of the IEEE Journal. We are very proud of him!

A draft copy of the journal article can be downloaded here.

Albany Tulip Festival

Kristin had a great first Mother's Day! We went to the Albany Tulip Festival on Saturday even though it was supposed to be rainy. The flower displays were beautiful and we were surprised to see a local TV crew filming Steve and Thomas playing. They even came over and interviewed us about the festival and the weather and it ended up on last night's news! Click on the photo above to see the footage. It is 11 MB in size- so it might take awhile to download!

Today we went to a brewery in the Stockade district in Schenectady for a buffet lunch and then to view houses with a real estate agent. We aren't buying yet, but we certainly saw some lovely homes! Thomas was a real trooper about having to get in and out of the car seat so many times. We've added a new photo album to the galleries area with more photos from the weekend.

Fancy hairdo

Thomas had an early bath last night since we had company coming for dinner. He seemed really confused when the normal bathtime followed by a bottle didn't lead immediately to bedtime!

Relaxing weekend

We tried a new experiment this weekend: no driving! We managed to get most of our groceries at a local butcher shop which is very close to our apartment, and the rest at Walmart which is also within walking distance. We also found some other housing developments to explore. The weekend seemed to last longer with less time wasted in the car!

On the move!

Thomas has started crawling! We thought he would just be happy with scooting around on his bottom but he suprised us yesterday with his new moves.

Click on the picture to see a small movie of him crawling. The movie is 2MB in size, and will require either the Real Player or the Windows Media Player.

Mind the gap

Thomas can finally wear the souvenir we got him from his trip to the American embassy in London back in the autumn - but probably not for too long based on how fast he's growing!
